FOUNDER

RODRIGO GUTIERREZ

Corialent

12 years ago, Rodrigo decided that the Coca Colas of the world shouldn’t be the only ones who get to have all the fun in the advertising industry. He was sick of all the dull, corporate, navy blue and white B2B work out there. Business people are people too. Corialent specializes in B2B marketing that doesn’t suck. And they want to get the rest of the industry drinking that delicious KoolAid.

Quinn Emanuel Institute ON the future of the auto industry

Join us at the inaugural Quinn Emanuel Institute on the Future of the Auto Industry. The subject of the first seminar, which will be held on 14 October 2019 in Stuttgart, is regulatory developments, liability, and safety innovation regarding self-driving technology and AI.

Our event focuses on AI in the auto industry, and specifically on the development of autonomous vehicles, including legal, regulatory and safety topics.  As development of autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence in the auto industry transitions from the research and development phase to actual products on the road, the legal, regulatory and safety regimes are of paramount interest.   This event will provide perspectives from those who are already deeply involved in these issues.

Taking place in the heartland of the German car industry and hosted by the world’s largest international law firm focusing solely on litigation and arbitration, this is a unique opportunity for you to hear from the “front lines” of litigation and regulation in the AV sector, including the US perspective.  In addition to opening remarks by Quinn Emanuel founding partner John B. Quinn and presentations by Dr. Mark Rosekind of AI startup ZOOX, Inc., Thomas Andrae, a computer scientist, venture capitalist and advisor to AI start up Merantix and Continental’s digital / future mobility division, and Quinn Emanuel partner Jordan Jaffe, there will also be Q&A sessions to allow you to ask questions of the panel on their recent experiences and current issues affecting AV startups and automotive OEMs. You will also have the opportunity to hear the experiences of some of the people at the forefront of driverless car regulation in the USA, from both the federal government and startup perspectives. Networking opportunities will also abound and the event will end with a Cocktail Reception.

Register today to ensure a place at this exciting event!

SPEAKERS

John B. Quinn

John B. Quinn enjoys a unique, dual status in the legal profession. Widely regarded as one of the top trial lawyers in the world, he is equally well-known as the founder of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP – a global litigation colossus without equal. Since founding the firm with three other lawyers in Los Angeles in 1986, Quinn has built an institution which the Wall Street Journal has termed a “global litigation powerhouse.” Meanwhile, his reputation as a “legal titan” (Los Angeles Daily Journal) and a “known litigation genius” (Chambers) has only grown.

Dr. Mark Rosekind

Mark R. Rosekind, Ph.D., is a passionate safety professional with more than 30 years of experience promoting innovation through science and leadership in complex environments. In April 2017, Dr. Rosekind joined the executive team at Zoox as the Chief Safety Innovation Officer. He leads efforts to safely develop, test, and deploy autonomous vehicles. Prior to Zoox, Dr. Rosekind was appointed by President Obama to be the 15th Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Serving from 2014 to 2017.

Jordan R. Jaffe

Jordan R. Jaffe is a partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, resident in the San Francisco office. Jordan’s practice focuses on working with cutting edge technology clients on their most important intellectual property and business litigation disputes. Jordan played a leading role in what was likely the most watched technology litigation in the country in 2017-18—Waymo v. Uber. Jordan and others at Quinn Emanuel represented Waymo LLC, formerly Google’s self-driving car program, in an action asserting misappropriation of trade secrets and patent infringement related to Waymo’s self-driving LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) self-driving technology against Uber Technologies, Inc. and Ottomotto LLC. Jordan lead the technical team at Quinn Emanuel, including co-presenting Waymo’s opening statement at trial. Jordan continues to represent autonomous vehicle companies regarding intellectual property, data privacy and other legal issues.

Thomas Andrae

After his studies in Computer Science and economics, Thomas spent ten years in management consulting, predominantly in North America and Asia. Thomas possesses a unique understanding of the modeling of customer-centric ecosystems, as well as deep experience in driving companies from the earliest stages through periods of rapid growth. After starting his own company and successfully selling it to a Fortune 500 company, he started building the Venture Capital business for 3M corporation, 3M New Ventures. As Founder and Managing Partner of the Venture Capital firm Linden Capital, he is focusing on early stage investments at the interplay of technology and creativity. Technology focus areas are machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and advanced robotics. Furthermore, Thomas serves on the executive board of a Silicon Valley based advanced perception processing startup, focusing on autonomous mobility. Thomas holds various advisory and supervisory board seats, e.g. with Continental’s digital/ future mobility division or Merantix, one of the largest AI company builders in Europe.
